Three new reflections from Tim Trainor, Margit McCarthy, & Steve Hall
Called to be salt and light
The dual imagery of salt and light in the teachings of Jesus
By Tim Trainor

Click here to read Tim Trainor's reflection from June 10, 2025. Here's an excerpt:
The presence of light in darkness is unmistakable, like the taste of salt. Likewise, the presence of Christians in the world must be like a light in the darkness, not only in the sense that the truth of God’s Word brings light to the darkened hearts of sinful man (see John 1:1-10), but also in the sense that our good deeds must be evident for all to see, as Matthew 5 requests.
Tim Trainor’s reflections: He said to him, “Follow me.” And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him. (Luke 5:27)
Temptation Trials in the Middle of the Garden
'All have sinned and are deprived of the glory of God'
Click here to read Margit McCarthy's reflection from June 10, 2025. Here's an excerpt:
The plot thickened. Why were they even near that tree, which God prohibited them from eating, cautioning that they would die if they did? (See Gen 2:17) The devil waited to bait them only after their curiosity was stirred and they possessed a fascination.
Margit McCarthy's reflections: Love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and love our neighbor as ourselves (Mt 22:37-39)
Jesus' rich imagery and symbolism
“Preach the Gospel, and if necessary, use words”
By Steve Hall

Click here to read Steve Hall's reflection from June 10, 2025. Here's an excerpt:
The well-known phrase “Preach the Gospel, and if necessary, use words” is usually attributed to St. Francis. The statement is, I fear, as misunderstood as the statement “you are the light of the world.” The first of these dictums is typically understood to mean that we should let our Christian moral lifestyle, lived out in our daily lives, serve as evidence of our faith. The second is frequently seen in the same manner as a directive to share the Gospel message. While both these endeavors are worthwhile, the teaching calls us to something more, something we may think to be impossibly difficult.
Steve Hall's reflections: For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away. (1 Corinthians 13:9)
