Their repentance pleases the Lord
Amazingly, the people believe Jonah
By Lou Occhi

On the third day, the giant fish vomits Jonah onto the shore. Again, this recalls the three days Jesus spent in the tomb. Jonah now heads to Nineveh. There is no mention in the book about Jonah bathing. Personally, I don’t think there is any amount of bathing that would totally remove the stench of fish vomit.
Lou Occhi’s reflections: “The Almighty has done great things for me, And Holy is His name.” (The Magnificat)
Someone commanded the people to repent
Nineveh’s king responded as should all of us in authority

Click here to read John Pearring’s reflection from October 7, 2025. Here’s an excerpt:
Some of us find Jesus’ use of the Jonah story as a prophetic connection a strong clue to its veracity. Why would Jesus wrap such an essential reference to three days in a whale by Jonah to his upcoming three days in the “heart of the earth?” Would he use a critical piece of scripture that is fulfilled from a made-up story?
John Pearring’s reflections: He said to them, “Ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” (Luke 10:2)
