St. Charles Borromeo used his gifts of organization, persuasion, education, and righteousness to correct flaws in the Catholic Church during his leadership of the third and final session of the Council of Trent. Through education and training opportunities, he made the lives of the religious more effective for the church and less stressful for the clergy. His love for humanity guided his service for those in need. I expect to see him at the banquet in the Kingdom of God.

Yes, the loss of Jocelyn remains raw. I see much of life through a different lens since she shuffled off this mortal coil. Death will do that to the living. I hear the daily readings with a mind’s eye upon memories of her life. I am told this is how grief works its way. Memories of my lost friends and other family members appear in scripture constantly. It’s both lovely and painful.

From Cupid to Pan to Hades, from Zeus to Prometheus to Aphrodite, who could imagine what the gods would dream up next? This belief was largely true throughout the known Roman empire, except for one small segment of the population, most of whom lived in a small tributary state on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean. Their God was different.
